Publishing Terms & Author Agreement Information

This page summarises the commercial terms that apply to a publishing engagement with Scribenex. The signed agreement for your title prevails if it differs from this summary.

The engagement

A publishing engagement begins when you submit a manuscript and we confirm in writing that we will proceed. Until both steps are complete there is no agreement and no fee is due.

Scope of services

Depending on the agreed package, Scribenex provides manuscript assessment, proofreading, formatting and typesetting, cover preparation, publishing preparation, ISBN assistance and allotment support, and platform-listing support. The services, deliverables and timetable for your title are recorded in your agreement.

Fees and payment milestones

Publishing fees are quoted per title before work begins. For the current promotional offer, Book Publishing is priced at the published offer rate for a manuscript up to the stated page limit; eligibility and the validity period are shown on our Pricing page.

Fees are normally collected in milestones: an agreed first portion when production is scheduled, and the remaining portion before final release, publication or listing. The exact milestones, amounts and due dates are stated in the agreement for your title. No fee is charged for merely submitting a manuscript for assessment.

What is not included

Government or third-party charges outside our control, such as statutory fees relating to an identifier where the allotting agency charges them, are not included unless the agreement says so. Printing, courier and author-copy costs are quoted separately.

Eligibility for the offer page limit is assessed on the final typeset extent of the book, not on the raw manuscript.

Author responsibilities

You agree to deliver the manuscript in the form requested, respond to queries and proof approvals within agreed windows, confirm you hold the rights you are granting, and supply any permissions needed for third-party material.

Where an author is unresponsive for a prolonged period, a project may be paused and re-quoted on resumption. This will be communicated in writing first.

Timelines

Indicative timelines are given in working days from the date the previous step is completed and approved. Timelines are extended by revision rounds, delayed approvals, or the response time of external agencies and platforms.

Changes and cancellation

You may request changes to the scope before work on the affected stage begins. Once a stage has been performed the fee for that stage is earned. Refunds and cancellations are handled under our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Rights and royalties

The rights you grant, and the royalty basis, rate and payment frequency for your title, are set out in your agreement. Royalties are calculated only on sales actually recorded for your title, at the rate applicable to that title and sales channel. See our Copyright & Intellectual Property page.

No guaranteed outcomes

Scribenex does not guarantee ISBN allotment, acceptance by any retailer or publishing platform, placement in any catalogue, or any level of sales, earnings or ranking. Statements about platform listing describe support we provide, not a promised result.

Author copies

Authors may order printed copies of their own title. The minimum order quantity is 7 copies per request. The per-copy cost, applicable shipping and the total are shown to a signed-in author in the Author Portal before the order is placed.
